December 10, 2021
The holiday season is upon us, which means it’s time to get excited! Sure, there are visits from loved ones, giant feasts or loads of presents; but when end-of-year festivities roll around it also indicates the annual SCCA National Convention is not far off!
The second-ever virtual SCCA National Convention, themed SCCA CONNECT 2022, is slated to take place online January 21–29 wherever you are seated! It will provide an even greater opportunity for Members, Region Leaders and Event Leadership to continue the pursuit of our collective Purpose of connecting car enthusiasts with memorable shared experiences.
The National Convention is again FREE to attend. The only thing to do is register today for SCCA CONNECT 2022 before holiday shenanigans divert your focus. SCCA President/CEO Mike Cobb also hopes everyone will make plans to watch the SCCA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony revving things up from the very start.
“Again this year, SCCA’s Hall of Fame inductees are both epic and special. Don’t miss the ceremony and online show Friday, January 21, because there will be great stories, great memories, and likely some really funny moments,” Cobb said. “The traditional SCCA Annual Meeting, Convention Kickoff session, and Club Awards presentations will happen during the same broadcast, along with a special keynote speaker! So, register today for SCCA CONNECT 2022 and tune in for the fun. Better yet, make it a Region gathering and share the Club’s history together.”
SCCA’s gift to you is a lineup of incredible sessions for SCCA CONNECT 2022. As usual, there will be standard Region leadership onboarding, as well as training and certification courses. There will also be loads more to enlighten SCCA leaders and get creative juices racing in a way that helps every Region.
Below is a full rundown of the current schedule and list of topics. Chris Robbins, SCCA’s Director of Region Development, noted that risk management insight, marketing strategies, Town Halls, and info sessions are all on the agenda. There are also key presentations, moderated by Inside the SCCA podcaster Brian Bielanski, which can’t be missed. Those include the IMSA & The Future of Motorsports session with IMSA President John Doonan and SCCA Vice President Eric Prill, the Redefining Winning presentation with SCCA Hall of Famer Randy Pobst and SCCA Senior Director of Experiential Programs Heyward Wagner, and the Car Culture vs. Car Competitors discussion with Hagerty CEO McKeel Hagerty and SCCA President/CEO Mike Cobb.
“While the ‘virtual’ Convention experience is a fiscal advantage for individual SCCA members and the Club as a whole, it does bring a challenge,” Robbins admitted. “Last year’s ‘virtual’ Convention attendance was the best in history. But SCCA also knows attendees sitting at home or in their office have distractions. That means National Convention presentations need to be both informative and entertaining, and of course are recorded and available to be watched at a later date. How did we make them entertaining? You’ll have to tune in to find out.”
Throughout the National Convention, attendees and guests get overviews on new and existing SCCA programs. For instance, there will be a discussion titled Solo – Making Lasting Connections for autocross enthusiasts, and the Road Racing presentation Electrified Vehicles in the SCCA will certainly be of interest. Then there’s a whole session dedicated to SCCA’s new Enduro Program, and the Connecting SCCA Programs: Combo Events seminar supplying guidance on bringing multiple SCCA disciplines together for a jam-packed weekend of fun.
SCCA Departments will conduct Program Direction sessions during National Convention where plans for the future are discussed. And there will also be “Office Hours” opportunities for members to ask specific questions of SCCA Department personnel. So, check out the presentation rundown below and register today before the holidays get too crazy.
