The Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour is well into the second half of its 10-event season, with the next stop being May 14-15, 2022, at Portland International Raceway (PIR) for a weekend hosted by SCCA’s Oregon Region. The second and final Hoosier Super Tour of the season conducted out west, the venue is a gorgeous one located along the Columbia River just north of downtown Portland.
The two-day PIR race weekend will utilize the venue’s 12-turn, 1.977-mile circuit. The layout includes the Shelton Chicane – consisting of Turns 1, 2, and 3 – which is frequently the scene of much excitement at race starts.
Things get rolling on Saturday, May 14, at 9 a.m. PDT with 20-minute qualifying sessions for each of the six race groups. After a lunch break, the groups head back on track beginning at 12:25 p.m. for 25-minute contests to decide day-one winners across as many as 28 Hoosier Super Tour car classes.
A second round of qualifying begins on Sunday, May 15, at 9 a.m., with 15-minute sessions for all drivers. That will be followed by 35-minute or 25-lap races, with the first contest slated to begin at 11:55 a.m.

Spec Racer Ford Gen3 (SRF3) battles at PIR often come down to three teams. Portland-based Pro Drive Racing Team and Flat Out Racing are often in the hunt, as is MBI Racing out of Buttonwillow Raceway Park in California. However, there are plenty of privateers who have a shot, too. The SRF3 field makes up race group one on Saturday and Sunday, so tune in early to SCCA.com and get ready for what will likely be a remarkable skirmish.
The GT-3 field has some heavy hitters because PIR’s Hoosier Super Tour is next on the 2022 GT-3 Challenge presented by MPI schedule. Supported by Mazda, Max Papis Innovations, Hoosier Racing Tire, Goodyear Tire, and AiM Sports, the GT-3 Challenge initiative continues to bolster participation in the class. Reigning GT-3 SCCA National Champion Troy Ermish is on the entry list with his Nissan 350Z, but he will face stiff competition from multi-time National Champions Michael Lewis, in a Mazda RX-7, and Collin Jackson, driving a Nissan 240SX.
Another reigning Runoffs champ to watch will be Scott Twomey in GT-Lite (GTL). He won Saturday’s Hoosier Super Tour race last year at PIR in a Toyota Tercel, although Michael Lewis grabbed the GTL victory on Sunday. The two may very well do battle again, but don’t count out former H Production Runoffs champion Brian Linn running GTL in a Nissan Sentra SE-R.
The Spec MX-5 Challenge series will also be on display at PIR. While not an official Hoosier Super Tour class, Spec MX-5 (SMX) will be on course with the sixth race group. That series is part of the Mazda development ladder, offering a place between Spec Miata and the MX-5 Cup.
Like most Hoosier Super Tours, spectators are welcome. Entry is free for those who would love to watch the action in person, and there are some amazing viewing spots around the circuit.
