Consider Donating to the SCCA Foundation

Consider Donating to the SCCA Foundation

Tis the season, and as you consider your end-of-year charitable giving, we hope you will keep the SCCA Foundation and the several terrific programs it supports in mind. Your donation to the SCCA Foundation – a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization – is tax deductible as allowed by law.  Whether you donate as part of your year-end tax planning, or just because you want to show your continued commitment to the club, 100% of your gift goes to support the Foundation’s mission.

As the SCCA joined the world in emerging from COVID lockdowns, generous support from SCCA members enabled the Foundation to accomplish a great deal in 2021:

SCCA Archives

The 77-year history of our Club is contained in the SCCA Archives housed at the International Motor Racing Research Center in Watkins Glen. Thanks to the continued work by the Archives staff, we are pleased to announce that 90% of the collection has been sorted, catalogued, and stored in archival-quality folders, boxes, and files. In September 2021, the Foundation facilitated an expansion of the collection with the addition of historical materials from the family of R. David Jones. We are now planning the next phase of processing which will include digitization of the collection to facilitate preservation and access for future generations. Your financial support makes these ongoing efforts possible.

Teen Safe Driving

SCCA-hosted Tire Rack Street Survival schools resumed in 2021 with the supply of available schools falling short of the high demand for this crucial advanced instruction of young drivers. Your donations will allow us to support more SCCA schools in 2022 and keep the costs low so that the program is accessible to as many teen drivers as possible.

Veteran Motorsports Opportunities

In 2021, the Foundation provided funding allowing dozens of veterans with service-related injuries to participate in SCCA Champ Tour, CAM, and regional autocross events. Your donations help this program continue to grow in its outreach to our nation’s heroes.

Women In Motorsports

The Foundation funded two of three Wendi Allen Scholarships awarded to women to facilitate their development as more successful drivers and future leaders of the Club. We also provided a scholarship for a female road racing driver to take her drivers’ school. Your donations help continue this program and the SCCA’s aim to expand participation of women in all facets of SCCA programs and activities.

Donations

Your donation can be made today easily and securely through the SCCA member portal or by mailing your donation to: SCCA Foundation, 6620 SE Dwight Street, Topeka, KS 66611.

In addition, there are some other qualified deductions that may apply to you (as always, please check with your accountant for clarification):

Many people have directed a portion of their annual required minimum distribution to be donated to the SCCA Foundation. Normally, a distribution from a traditional IRA incurs taxes since the account holder didn’t pay taxes on the money when they put it into the IRA. But account holders aged 70½ or older who contribute directly from a traditional IRA to a qualified charity can donate up to $100,000 without it being considered a taxable distribution. The deduction effectively lowers the donor’s adjusted gross income.

In addition, the SCCA Foundation can now receive donations in the form of corporate stock. By making a gift of appreciated stock, you may qualify for a tax deduction based on the fair market value of the stock and avoid capital gains tax.  Please contact us for more information and assistance in completing the forms for these types of donations.
