Hoosier Super Tour 2020 Reset: New Events Added

Hoosier Super Tour 2020 Reset: New Events Added

The opening portion of SCCA’s 2020 racing season has been unprecedented. Due to the coronavirus outbreak in the United States — and precautions that simply had to be taken to ensure the safety of participants, volunteers, fans and humanity — previous Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA ®Super Tour events planned for Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Hallett Motor Racing Circuit and VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) had to be postponed or canceled. But with some retooling and help from SCCA host regions, a revamped 10-event Hoosier Super Tour schedule has been constructed — albeit with some slight operational deviations.

The new 2020 Hoosier Super Tour schedule now contains a May 30-31 event made possible by the St. Louis Region. The Hoosier Super Tour presented by STLCom.com at World Wide Technology Raceway (formerly Gateway) replaces April’s canceled Hallett event. This Mid-States Conference weekend will have an optional Test & Tune on Friday, May 29, and course configuration will be decided in the coming weeks.

Next, Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta is back on the schedule with a July 25-26 Southeast Conference Hoosier Super Tour weekend thanks to the work of Atlanta Region. Hoosier Super Tour competitors will run together with the South Atlantic Road Racing Championship that weekend, providing an opportunity to have more people having more fun with cars after a long layoff.

Finally, an August 28-30 Hoosier Super Tour weekend is now planned at Pittsburgh International Race Complex thanks to SCCA’s Steel Cities Region. This Northeast Conference event is a substitution for the canceled VIR Hoosier Super Tour.

While both VIR and Hallett were previously dual-conference events, it’s simply impossible to duplicate that condition in the current climate. Deanna Flanagan, SCCA’s Director of Road Racing, noted the revised schedule also reduces the number of events that count toward the Southern Conference and Southeast Conference Points Standings by one event each.

“Things have been challenging across the country for SCCA regions and track owners alike. But everyone has really pulled together to help make a full 10-race Hoosier Super Tour season possible,” Flanagan said. “We’ll keep monitoring the coronavirus situation, and everyone should understand this updated schedule is subject to change depending on local restrictions and government recommendations. But the hope is the Hoosier Super Tour will be back up and running in May.”

The revised 2020 Hoosier Super Tour schedule now consists of the following 10 events:

– January 10-12: Sebring International Raceway; Sebring, FL (COMPLETED)
(Central Florida Region – Southeast Conference)

– February 8-9: Circuit of the Americas; Austin, TX (COMPLETED)
(Lone Star Region – Southern Conference)

Super Tour dates will also have enhanced weekend social activities.

Hoosier Super Tour drivers earn points toward two separate point championships, the U.S. Majors Tour Conference Championships, which include other non-Hoosier Super Tour Majors events, and the Hoosier Super Tour Championship.  Hoosier Super Tour Champions earn a free set of tires, a commemorative trophy and jacket for their achievement.
