SCCA in the Media: Oregon Region Volunteers

SCCA in the Media: Oregon Region Volunteers

In the understatement of the year: “It’s safe to say that members of the SCCA fall into the ‘love it’ category” of racing.

Fox 12 in Portland, OR, got wind of this during Portland International Raceway’s NASCAR Xfinity Series weekend in early June, and felt compelled to investigate – who are these motorsports-loving volunteers who are trackside at every event?

Of course, we know the answer to that, but Oregon Region’s Bud Mansur spoke on behalf of the 200-plus volunteers that were at Portland International Racing that weekend to help host the road racing event.

Drivers get the love, but they also sat inside the covered cockpit while Bud and friends were out in the elements – including torrential rain. The news piece covered the why, the how, and the reasons to get involved, which applies not just to those local to PIR, but to every track across the country.

Basically, Bud nailed it: “We’re a family here,” he said. “We’re here to train and have fun. We all camp out here during the weekend, why go home? It’s a giggle.”
