Two Super Sweepers Take to Detroit Airwaves

Two Super Sweepers Take to Detroit Airwaves

Road Racing or Solo, Time Trials or Track Night, nearly every Sports Car Club of America participant has fascinating stories to share. To some degree that is why people join the Club, to create a lifetime of exciting stories around having #funwithcars. In the past few weeks, Detroit Region road racers Bob Allaer and Bobby Sak, who both earned 2020 SCCA Super Sweep honors, got to share their motorsport experiences with Motown radio listeners on WFDF-AM during The Car Radio Show with Henry Payne.

Payne, automotive critic for The Detroit News and a Pulitzer-Prize-nominated editorial cartoonist who has raced with SCCA and SVRA, first chatted with Allaer. The full interview can be heard here through The Car Radio Show with Henry Payne podcast (Note: Allaer segment starts at the 23:00 mark). Allaer, the 2020 Formula Continental (FC) Runoffs champion, shares how he got involved in SCCA, what keeps him coming back to the FC class, his National Championship race this year at Road America, and thoughts on some of the highly skilled drivers he faced.

Sak’s interview segment can be heard here (Note: Sak’s segment starts at the 2:40 mark). In that conversation the Spec Racer Ford Gen3 (SRF3) Runoffs champion talks about his start in karting, experience racing in a couple pro series, what makes SRF3 such a great class, and how he triumphed at Road America during the 2020 SCCA National Championship.

While not related specifically to SCCA, race fans may want to listen to the guest interview that follows Sak. It’s an interesting bit of banter with Corvette Racing’s Doug Fehan, who recently departed the Corvette venture after 25 years.

Before listening to these podcasts, you may want to refresh your memory of the FC and SRF3 events held at Road America during the 57th SCCA National Championship Runoffs. Full race broadcast videos, presented by Mazda, are available for free viewing anytime online at SCCA.com. You can also share links to specific online, on demand Runoffs broadcasts through social media platforms.
